Woodcock Haworth and Nuttall (WHN) Solicitors has appointed Nick Hodgson as Senior Associate in its Corporate and Commercial team. He brings 25 years of specialist experience in corporate transactional and commercial work and will support the team’s expanding client base.
Nick’s appointment is the third in WHN’s Corporate and Commercial team in the past two years, taking it from a team of two to five with over 70 years of combined legal experience.
Nick’s appointment follows the qualification of former paralegal and experienced company secretary Harry Owen in October 2025 after two years training with the team. It also includes second career solicitor Justine Harris Hughes, who has been with the firm for ten years, Paul Matthews, who will continue to head the team and paralegal Charlie Diamond-McGill, who joined in November 2025.
During his career, Nick has been consistently recognised in the renowned Legal 500 UK Guide. The WHN team is already ranked as a leading North West firm for Corporate & Commercial in Legal 500, in addition to being ranked in Chambers & Partners.
Nick is based at the firm’s Bury office and will advise clients across the North West on the full range of corporate and commercial matters including corporate transactions, restructuring, shareholders’ and partnership agreements as well as general commercial advice.
Paul Matthews, Director and Head of WHN’s Corporate and Commercial team, said: “WHN’s corporate and commercial team has experienced real growth over recent years, driven by client demand – particularly for corporate transactional work.
“Our clients value the deep, long-term relationships that underpin our service, which is why Nick is an excellent addition to the team. It’s clear he understands how these relationships, built on trust, lead to the best legal advice, and for us, that is often delivered by advising on day-to-day commercial matters for clients, who then use us for more significant corporate transactions.
“Clients will benefit from the increased depth and breadth in the team which means we can handle the largest and most complex of transactions through to smaller transactions for family and owner managed businesses.”
Nick lives in East Lancashire and is a former international swimmer who competed at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games and won a bronze medal in the 1986 Commonwealth Games.
Nick Hodgson, Senior Associate, WHN Solicitors said: “WHN has a good, strong reputation across the North West, including in East Lancashire where I am from. That reputation is built on truly understanding clients’ businesses and their evolving legal needs.
“During my career, I’ve developed a deep understanding of what owner managed and SME businesses in Lancashire, Greater Manchester and across the North West need from their legal advisors and I’m looking forward to using this experience to deliver value and results for clients.”
