Fundraising was no handicap for 80 golfers who raised £7,000 for Rossendale Hospice by competing in WHN’s charity day of golf.

The event, now in its twelfth year, took place at Rossendale Golf Club on Wednesday, June 12 when 20 teams of four drove, pitched and putted their way around the picturesque Pennine golf course.

The winning team was Golf Rossendale Driving Range & Academy with 100 points, while runners up were Pierce Chartered Accountants with a score of 97, and third place went to WHN Solicitors, which notched up 92 points.

Prizes for the longest drive and shot nearest the pin included putters, T-shirts and golf balls. Later, a raffle in the clubhouse included prizes such as tickets to Disney on Ice, bottles of Champagne and cookery classes.

In addition, bidding was brisk during a special auction of a spa day and overnight stay at Stanley House Hotel and Spa in Mellor, donated by Freshfield, and The London Golf Club Four Ball, donated by StaySure Travel Insurance and StaySure Golf.

Last year’s event raised £6,500 and organisers were particularly pleased with this year’s contribution to the charity’s coffers.

Daniel Long, director at WHN Solicitors, said: “The day of golf was a double success in that we raised much-needed funds for Rossendale Hospice, which plays such a vital role in our local community, while bringing people together in the magnificent setting of Rossendale Golf Club for an event that was both fun and competitive.”
